ManBassador Programme

Why is wellbeing important in the workplace?

One in five British men die before the age of 65 due to preventable health problems such as heart disease and cancer of the bowel, lung or prostate. Mental health problems present just as high a risk - with 75% of all deaths by suicide in the UK attributed to men. Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 50.

Men often suffer in silence, ashamed to seek support, troubled by stigma and often frightened of receiving a diagnosis. Whether it's through poor physical or mental health, men in the UK workforce are suffering - which has it's own cost.

  • 70 million working days lost due to mental health problems.
  • 800,000 million workers self-report stress, anxiety or depression at work.
  • 39% of employers say male employees will wait until a health problem becomes severe before mentioning it to their line manager or team.

Employers can empower: creating safer, supportive work

Make your business more compassionate with the ManBassador Programme

The ManBassador Programme is designed by ManHealth and Our Mind's Work. This workplace wellbeing initiative provides support for both mental and physical health in men from all walks of life.

We'll train key employees to become wellbeing ambassadors. They'll achieve the Men's Health Ambassador Certificate and will learn to run male friendly campaigns, have supportive conversations, signpost people to expert help and how to practice safeguarding.

We recognise that businesses are fast-moving and full of challenges, so we've made it easy to set up your ManBassador Programme.

Contact us today and we'll get you started with this three-step process:

  • We work together to support and guide you through the process of implementing the programme's Blueprint.
  • We provide the recruitment and training for your ManBassadors.
  • Finally, we guide you through to the launch of your ManBassador Programme.

Forget 'chin up', let's join together and give men the support they need in your workplace.

Men and Mental Health - What they really need to know.

In England, around 1 in 8 men have a common mental health problem. However, men may be reluctant to seek support for their mental health or disclose mental health problems to loved ones. While many of the same difficulties are experienced by both men and women, some difficulties and influences on mental health may be especially relevant for men.
